From UnioneSarda:

Pope Francis has removed Fernando Maria Cornet from the clerical state, following his controversial actions and a book that questions the legitimacy of the current papacy. The Pope’s decision is described as “supreme and unappealable,” with Cornet facing accusations of promoting schism within the Church.

The End of a Clerical Career

Father Fernando Maria Cornet, once the parish priest of San Donato and San Sisto in Sassari, has been dismissed after his actions contradicted the unity of the Church. This decision comes after the priest’s public assertions in his book *Habemus Antipapam*, in which he questioned Pope Benedict XVI’s resignation and the legitimacy of Pope Francis.

New Leadership in Sassari

In light of Cornet’s removal, Reverend Don Antonino Canu has been appointed as the new parish priest. Don Canu, who has previously worked with the priests of Cottolengo in Sassari’s Historic Center, will help continue the Church’s mission of unity and faith in the community.

A Call for Unity in the Church

The Archbishop of Sassari has urged the diocesan community to pray for the unity of the Church, reminding them that all Christians share a common bond as members of the body of Christ. St. Augustine’s teachings on unity and harmony within the Church were highlighted, emphasising the need to avoid divisions and conflicts among believers.

Controversy Surrounding *Habemus Antipapam*

Father Cornet’s book has raised significant controversy. In it, Cornet speculates about the possibility of Pope Francis being an anti-pope, a provocative stance that has alienated many. His ideas have fueled tensions, ultimately leading to his dismissal from the priesthood. The book continues to stir debates within the Church.
