From Catholic News Agency:
Pope Francis has announced that Blessed Carlo Acutis and Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati will be canonized in 2025 during special Jubilee celebrations aimed at young people. The announcement was made on November 20, 2024, during the pope’s weekly audience on World Children’s Day. Carlo Acutis’ canonization will take place during the Church’s Jubilee of Teenagers (April 25-27), and Pier Giorgio Frassati’s during the Jubilee of Youth (July 28-August 3). Both ceremonies are expected to attract large crowds to Rome, particularly young Catholics.
Carlo Acutis, who died at 15 in 2006, is celebrated as the first millennial saint. A tech-savvy Italian teenager, he used his skills to promote devotion to the Eucharist, creating a traveling exhibition on Eucharistic miracles. Known for his deep faith, Carlo prioritized daily Mass and referred to the Eucharist as “my highway to heaven.” He inspired conversions among those around him, including his parents and a Hindu caregiver. Beatified in 2020, Carlo’s influence continues, with schools and ministries named in his honor worldwide.
Pier Giorgio Frassati, a young Italian mountaineer and Dominican tertiary, died at 24 in 1925 from polio, likely contracted while serving the sick. Known for his devotion to the poor and his motto “Verso L’Alto” (“To the heights”), Frassati was a model of faith and service. He was beatified in 1990 by Pope John Paul II, who called him a “man of the eight beatitudes.” His canonization is pending final Vatican confirmation of a second miracle attributed to him.
Both Acutis and Frassati exemplify vibrant holiness, inspiring young Catholics to prioritize faith and service. Their canonizations will highlight the Catholic Church’s Jubilee of Hope in 2025, emphasizing the call to live out Gospel values in contemporary life.
